Celebrating Women This March: Pearls and Everyday Strength

March is a month of renewal, growth, and celebration. From the blooming spring flowers to International Women’s Day, it’s a time to honor beauty, strength, and the stories that shape us. Pearls, timeless and elegant, fit perfectly into this narrative—they are more than just gems; they are symbols of patience, resilience, and grace. This year, 2026, the official theme of International Women’s Day is “Give to Gain,” a call to support and uplift women so that we all benefit and grow together.

 Pearls and Women’s Stories

For centuries, pearls have been worn by women as emblems of elegance, wisdom, and quiet power. From queens to modern leaders, pearls have been a subtle yet powerful statement of strength and poise. This March, as we celebrate women everywhere, pearls remind us that true beauty shines with character, care, and perseverance

I remember speaking with a friend who was given a pearl necklace by her aunt. At first, she saw it simply as a piece of jewelry she might wear on special occasions. But when she learned that her aunt wore the same pearls while building a career and living on her own in Manila as a young woman, the necklace began to represent something deeper—quiet strength and perseverance. Wearing it made her feel connected to that story because it felt like that each pearl tells a story of growth and transformation.

Pearls in Art and Design

Pearls aren’t only for jewelry—they inspire creativity in art, fashion, and design. Globally, artists and designers showcase pearls in exhibitions and collections that honor their cultural and natural significance. Although I love pearls from all over the world, I feel a special connection to pearls (jewelry) made in the Philippines—particularly pieces designed by Filipinos / tribes who honor their heritage. Wearing these pearls feels like carrying a part of our culture and stories wherever I go, thereby connecting tradition with modern elegance.

There is a small jewelry workshop I frequently visit whenever I am in my country. It is run by a husband-and-wife team who come from the Maranao people of Mindanao, a culture known for its rich artistic traditions. Behind the creative designs, is the wife who personally creates pieces that reflect elegance, heritage, and timeless beauty. She told me that she creates her pearl jewelry instinctively inspired by tradition and finds joy in the beauty that emerges. I kind of like the simplicity of her creations. She made my pearl bracelet and I also had my old pearl necklace and bracelet re-stringed. She was amazed how my old pearls have stayed in excellent condition for many years!

Spring, Renewal, and Pearls

March also signals the arrival of spring—a season of new beginnings and fresh possibilities. The soft luster of pearls pairs beautifully with the pastel blooms of spring, reminding us to embrace renewal, hope, and gentle elegance in our lives.

Celebrating with Pearls

This month, consider pearls not just as jewelry but as a symbol:

  • To honor a woman who inspires you

  • To celebrate your own growth and resilience

  • To connect with nature and the art of creation

.... and finally

Every pearl carries a story—of patience, care, and transformation. Let the month of March, remind us women from all walks of life, that beauty, strength, and hope can flourish together, just like the new blooms of spring without forgetting of how we have come thus far.

Do you own a piece of jewelry or keepsake that reminds you of your journey or accomplishments?

Keep shining—inside and out. ✨
